Toyota Prius Hybrid Battery Replacement: Cost, Fitment and Buying Guide

, by Best Hybrid Batteries, 5 min reading time

Compare Prius replacement battery fitment, base prices, battery types, installation options, core returns and 3-year or optional 6-year warranty coverage.

Buying a replacement Prius hybrid battery starts with the exact model, not just the year. A standard Prius liftback, Prius c, Prius v and Prius Plug-in or Prime can require different batteries. Best Hybrid Batteries supplies replacement packs with nationwide shipping, installation options and a standard 3-year unlimited-mileage warranty, with an optional 6-year term where offered.

This guide covers battery selection and purchase planning. For current pricing, available options and exact fitment, use the linked product pages or ask us to check your vehicle.

A model-year match alone does not establish compatibility. If your vehicle is imported, has had a battery conversion, or is outside the listed applications, contact us before purchasing.

How much does a Prius replacement hybrid battery cost?

As checked on October 19, 2026, BHB’s listed base prices are $1,549 for the 2004–2009 Prius and $1,749 for the 2010–2015 Prius liftback, including the standard 3-year warranty. These are battery prices, not installed totals. Taxes, optional extended coverage, installation and applicable shipping surcharges can add to the total. Prices can change; the product page and your order show the applicable amount.

Compare the complete quote: battery condition, fitment, initial shipping, core terms, installation and warranty exclusions. A low advertised pack price can become a different total once these items are included.

New, remanufactured or used: what are you comparing?

  • New OEM pack: A factory replacement option. Ask the dealer for the installed price and written replacement-part warranty.
  • Remanufactured pack: Ask what was replaced or reused, how the battery was tested, whether electronics are included and who handles a claim. The term alone does not describe every supplier’s process.
  • Used salvage pack: Ask about donor history, test results and return rights. Vehicle mileage or an open-circuit voltage reading alone does not establish remaining battery life.
  • Module repair: Ask whether diagnosis supports a localized repair and how the remaining modules were evaluated. A repair and a complete replacement are different scopes of work.

BHB’s listed 2004–2009 and 2010–2015 replacement packs are fully remanufactured NiMH assemblies with electronics included. They do not require programming for those listed applications. Follow the supplied instructions for any vehicle-specific transfer of brackets, ducts or cooling components.

Shipping, core return and warranty: what is included?

Standard shipping is included within the continental United States. Check your quote for any remote-area or residential freight surcharges and any expedited service you select. Qualifying domestic DIY orders include prepaid core-return shipping and no upfront core deposit.

Return the original battery core within 30 days to activate warranty coverage. Keep the replacement battery’s shipping materials and follow the included return instructions. Contact us before the deadline if you need help arranging the return. A $500 core charge applies if the required core is not returned.

The standard warranty is 3 years with unlimited mileage; an optional 6-year unlimited-mileage warranty is available where offered. Your selected term is shown on your order. Replacement shipping, installation labor and towing are not covered. Commercial-use vehicles have separate terms. Read our complete warranty policy before comparing offers.

Choose an installation option

  • DIY — our most popular option: Installing your own battery is often much more straightforward than people expect. Our packs arrive fully assembled, and our vehicle-specific instructions walk you through the process. Take your time, follow the shutdown steps, required waiting times and protective-equipment guidance, and use the specified checks before handling electrical connections. These precautions help make installation safe and successful. We’re happy to help with questions along the way.
  • Your mechanic: We can ship directly to the shop you choose. Confirm that the shop accepts customer-supplied batteries and obtain a labor quote before ordering.
  • Installer network: Use our White Glove installation options to find a participating shop. Confirm local availability, scheduling and labor charges.
  • Plainfield, Illinois: Schedule installation at our shop at 17320 S. Delia Ave., Plainfield, IL 60586.

Prius buying questions

Will a replacement battery fix every hybrid warning?

No. Send the complete diagnostic-code report before ordering if the cause is uncertain. A warning message alone does not establish that the high-voltage battery needs replacement.

How long will the replacement last?

Service life depends on the battery, vehicle condition, cooling, climate and use. A warranty term is a coverage commitment, not a guaranteed lifespan. Ask about the specific pack rather than relying on a single life-expectancy claim for every Prius model.

What information should I send for a quote?

Send the year, exact Prius model, VIN, diagnostic-code report, delivery ZIP code and preferred installation method. We can help identify the correct pack and explain your options.
